Palaces on the Binnenhof

After the counts of Holland had disappeared, the States of Holland and the princes of Orange took over the building. Both created magnificent buildings for themselves on the Binnenhof.  Prince Maurits started to build his statholderly palace, in a beautiful renaissance style. It was used by many members of the family.

In the 18th century, prince William V added a new palace to the Binnenhof. In its ballroom, the meetings of dutch parliament took place for more than a century.
